House of Delegates Votes to Establish Sports and Entertainment Authority
Today, the Virginia House of Delegates passed HB 1514 to establish the Virginia Sports and Entertainment Authority as a political subdivision charged with financing the construction of a sports and entertainment campus in Alexandria. The bill earned bipartisan support, sponsored by chief patron Del. Luke Torian (Prince William) and chief co-patron Del. Terry Kilgore (Scott County), and passed with a vote of 59 to 40.
The bill will now move on to further consideration by the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate. The City of Alexandria will continue to track the bill’s progress as it moves through these next steps.
“Today’s vote is an important milestone in the efforts to bring a sports and entertainment district to Potomac Yard,” said Mayor Justin Wilson. “Adoption of this legislation will allow the residents of our City to be able to consider this project, based on the merits of the proposal and the benefits it would bring to our community. We will continue to monitor and engage with the General Assembly as they continue their consideration of this matter to ensure Alexandria’s interests are well represented. We are appreciative of the Virginia House of Delegates and their vote today to keep this opportunity open for both the Commonwealth and Alexandria.”
