Project Description

The City of Alexandria is working to address flooding near the intersection of E. Alexandria Avenue and E. Luray Avenue. The City is currently investigating the factors contributing to flooding due to storm water and reviewing potential local drainage system enhancements that could be made to reduce the frequency and severity of floods.

This is a standard concrete curb inlet, which is an opening in the concrete curb along the side of a road that allows storm water to enter into the City's storm sewer system.

This is a standard concrete curb inlet that has been installed in an open excavation. The structure is much larger than it appears when buried. Below the opening in the curb line is a large concrete vault with circular openings to receive storm sewer pipes.

This project is scheduled to start planning in FY 2026. There is currently no active work taking place on this project.

This project is being implemented as part of the Flood Action Alexandria program. The City of Alexandria launched Flood Action Alexandria - a multipronged program to help address flooding issues in our community - in Spring 2021 in response to more frequent intense, climate-change-induced storm events.
