City of Alexandria Responds to Water Main Break
On the morning of October 26, the City of Alexandria Transportation and Environmental Services Stormwater Management Division responded to a report of murky water in Holmes Run. On investigation, staff discovered the source to be a large municipal water main break on North Paxton Street and Cloude’s Mill Drive (see map below).
Virginia American Water, the utility company responsible for water service and water mains in Alexandria, is on-site and working to make repairs as quickly as possible. As crews work to repair the break, one lane of traffic is closed with minimal delays. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The estimated time of repair is 6-8 hours.
During the repair period, Virginia American Water anticipates 44 local customers and 3 hydrants will experience diminished to zero water pressure. Residents are advised that Holmes Run might retain its cloudy appearance for the remainder of the day.
