CITY OF ALEXANDRIA RECOGNIZES 27 RESIDENTS FOR NATIONAL CENTENARIAN DAY
October 4, 2023: On September 12, the City celebrated Alexandria residents who have lived a century or longer in recognition of National Centenarian’s Day. Of the 27 honored, five 100-year-old residents and their families attended and two were represented by family at the National Centenarian Day Ceremony.
The City, along with the Successful Aging Committee, Senior Service of Alexandria, and the Aging and Adult Services Division, part of the Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS), held the event in the Vola Lawson Lobby of City Hall at 301 King Street.
Among the attendees were City Council members and Mayor Justin Wilson. Each honoree was presented with a certificate by Mayor Wilson, who shared a brief history about each of them.
“It was a great event and I loved hearing tips for longevity from each centenarian!” said Pamela Austin, the DCHS Aging and Disability Resource Coordinator.
ALXnow and the Alexandria Gazette covered the event.
