Office of the Arts Launches New Online Public Art Map Tool
For Immediate Release: May 23, 2023
The Office of the Arts is proud to announce the launch of its new online Public Art Map tool, which allows residents and visitors to explore public art throughout the city in a more user-friendly and accessible way.
The Public Art Map, located on the international Public Art Archive, is a comprehensive online resource that showcases the city's vast array of public art installations, including sculptures, murals, and other forms of public art. With this new tool, users can easily search for and discover public art near them, learn more about the artists and artworks, explore multimedia such as videos and audio about the artwork, and plan self-guided tours.
"We are excited to bring public art within the city to the Public Art Archive", says Meika Daus, Alexandria's Public Art Senior Manager "There are so many incredible projects in the city, and the online collection with the public art map tool creates an opportunity to highlight those projects within our community and to the greater region."
The Alexandria Public Art Collection and Map can be accessed directly through the Public Art Archive website, or by visiting alexandriava.gov/publicart and can be used on desktop and mobile devices. The tool is free and available to the public, and users are encouraged to share their experiences using the hashtag #ArtsALX.
The launch of the Public Art Map is part of the Office of the Arts' ongoing efforts to promote and support public art in the city. The Office of the Arts is committed to fostering a vibrant and thriving arts community and believes that public art plays an essential role in creating a sense of place and community identity.
