The Master Schedule Project Tracker for proposed flood mitigation projects across the City. 

The City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) outlines the large infrastructure projects to be undertaken across City departments during a 10-year time horizon. The list of Capital Projects is updated annually during the budgeting process undertaken by the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager’s Office in coordination with all City departments. 

The design phase for the first three projects were funded in FY2022. 

COMMONWEALTH AVENUE & E. GLEBE ROAD ($34 MILLION) AND E. GLEBE ROAD AND ASHBY ($16 MILLION)

In the Four Mile Run watershed, the two top priority projects Commonwealth Avenue & E. Glebe Road project and E. Glebe Road and Ashby project are being combined under one large capacity project because they are located next to one another. This project is expected to increase the capacity, or size, of the stormwater sewer pipes; create opportunities for stormwater to be stored and released slowly over time; and incorporate “green infrastructure” practices, such as permeable pavement, that allow the stormwater to soak into the ground, reducing runoff. 

• Status: Design procurement was released January 21, 2022 via a Request for Qualifications (RFQU). The design phase typically takes up to two-years, followed by construction procurement, then construction. Considerations of increasing the design storm standard will be incorporated into the design phase and assessed for the greatest cost-benefit value to the City. 

HOOFFS RUN CULVERT BYPASS ($60 MILLION)

In the Hooffs Run watershed, the Hooffs Run Culvert Bypass project will construct a new storm sewer pipe system to transport stormwater from Timber Branch away from the Hooffs Run Culvert. This bypass system is anticipated to help better manage flows from the Timber Branch watershed.

Eleven priority storm sewer capacity improvement projects have been identified for FY2022 - FY2031.

Until substantial design work is completed for each specific project, schedule and budget estimates will remain planning-level that include contingencies. More precise construction schedules and cost estimates will be updated as staff collects additional information (including cost-benefit analysis) and refines the design of each project.
