Alexandria Fire Department Hosting Community Sessions on Restructure
A DCHS CONNECT NEWS HIGHLIGHT
June 3, 2021--The Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) is hosting three virtual community engagement opportunities to answer questions from residents about an organizational restructure aimed at improving service and response times, reducing costs, increasing safety and improving response preparedness for specialty teams.
The restructure includes staffing a ladder truck and several fire engines with at least one paramedic on each unit and adding Emergency Medical Service Lieutenants on various units to ensure continued high quality care during emergency incidents and enhanced training opportunities for paramedic interns. Specialty teams, such as Hazardous Materials and Inland Rescue teams will be relocated to balance rescue squad coverage. AFD will also create Battalion Management Teams for the East and West ends of the city. Learn more about these and other aspects of the restructuring.
To provide a better understanding of AFD’s service delivery and how improvements will benefit the health and safety of residents, AFD representatives will present the plan during the community engagement events and give residents the opportunity to ask questions.
