Presentation Focuses on Deeper Understanding of Child Behavior

June 11, 2021--DCHS Infant Development Specialist Patty Eitemiller and Infant and Family Mental Health Specialist Lisa Terry co-presented a session on “Diving Deeper to Understand Behavior” at the 2021 Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children conference, which is now available on YouTube.
The session featured content adapted from Zero to Three: The Growing Brain and highlighted the “Five R’s,” a theory of healthy brain development that can help professionals and parents caring for young children and includes relationships, responsive intervention, respect, routines and repetition. The presentation also included factors that impact child behavior, the nine temperament traits and how they contribute to behavior, and strategies that caregivers can learn for responding to challenging behavior.
