Duke Street Dog Park Improvements
Location
Project Description
In 2019, the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities completed design for the renovation of the Duke Street Dog Park. Per the Holmes Run Park Improvement Plan (2014), the design concept includes adding a small dog area and large dog area, water fountains, and shade trees to the site. The proposed concept also includes shade structures that may be installed at a later date, as funding allows.
Progress Update
The design for the Duke Street Dog Park was updated in 2018 and 2019 based on community comments. Modifications include adding a hose bib connection to the water fountains, extending the pavement at the entrances to connect to ADA accessible benches, changing the plantings between the two dog areas, and adding trees to the perimeter of the dog park. Modifications for maintenance access were added for improved service to the dog park. Future improvements may include small park shelters, lights, and a gravel path for maintenance access. Improvements will be phased. The first phase includes the installation of water service and a water fountain, both anticipated to be installed spring/summer 2025.
