Local professionals and college or technical school graduates are sought by the DCHS Youth Development Team to help Alexandria high school students learn about careers and post high school and college education by submitting short videos on their own education and career choices.
This initiative is designed to expose youth to post high school education and career options, says Youth Development Team Leader Noraine Buttar. “By providing snippets of real-life experiences, these videos encourage teens to learn about and explore college and career options. They also introduce them to career paths with which they may not be familiar and inspire them to start planning for their future.”
Videos submitted should be 30-seconds to 1-minute in length. College-focused videos (including technical schools and other post-secondary education) should focus on two of the following questions:

What is the coolest thing about your college?

What do you love about your college?

What challenges did you face in college?

What was something you learned in high school that helped you during college?
Career-focused videos should focus on two of the following questions:

What is the coolest thing about your job?

Why do you love your job?
-
What are some challenges to your job?

What is something you learned in high school that helps you in your career today?
Individuals may submit both education-focused and career-focused videos but should cover these topics separately in two individual videos.

The Youth Development Team provides services that promote healthy youth development and prevent alcohol and drug use, pregnancy, emotional problems, violence and school drop-out through a variety of programs, outreach and education efforts.
SAPCA is an alliance of parents, youth, schools, city health and recreation agencies, media, nonprofits, businesses, policymakers and law enforcement whose mission is to engage diverse sectors of the community in collaborative, cross-cultural and comprehensive substance abuse prevention efforts that result in a reduction of underage substance use and abuse in the City of Alexandria.
