SAC is Bringing Back Resiliency Yoga
A DCHS CONNECT NEWS HIGHLIGHT
October 14, 2021--The Alexandria Sexual Assault Center is bringing back Resiliency Yoga, a series of yoga classes offered to survivors and co-survivors of sexual assault.
The sessions are aimed at helping survivors at any place on their journey to reclaim their resiliency through the practice of gentle and mindful yoga.
In the next few months, three classes will be offered. All sessions, in-person and virtual, will be held on a Sunday morning and will last for one hour, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The first class is on October 17 and will be in-person and outdoor. The address for the location of the session will be provided upon registration. In case of inclement weather, the group will meet virtually at the same date and time.
The second yoga class on November 14 will be virtual, and the third one on January 16, 2022 will be virtual, too.
This is a closed group, therefore registration is required to receive links and other information about the meetings. The space is limited.
The classes will be instructed by Kyra Davenport, a registered yoga teacher who has been practicing yoga for more than four years. She also teaches mediation, private yin, trauma-informed yoga and chair yoga.
As a trauma survivor herself, Davenport has a deep passion for working with trauma survivors and loves serving her community. Her favorite quote about yoga is from B. K. S. Iyengar, an Indian yoga teacher, who said “Yoga is a light, which once lit will never dim.”
