Alexandria Police Department Investigates Overnight Sexual Assault

Alexandria, Va. – The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that occurred overnight. An adult woman was walking after midnight in the area of Mount Vernon and Commonwealth Avenue when she was attacked and assaulted by a stranger. The woman is being treated at a local hospital.

Our investigation indicates this is unrelated to the Main Line Boulevard incident that occurred on February 4, 2024.

APD detectives will be canvassing the area today and talking with members of the community.

Interim Chief Raul Pedroso said, “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community. The search for the sexual assault suspect is a top priority. We have implemented increased patrols in the area and are ensuring our detectives have all the resources needed for their investigation.”

This is an open and active investigation; more information may be released when it becomes available.

If anyone saw someone or something suspicious or has information that could help in this case, please call Detective Kristina Loerch at 703-746-6785. Tips can remain anonymous.

Detectives of the Alexandria Police Department are asking for the community to use the link or the QR code below to upload any surveillance video footage. Also, anyone who may have been driving in the area late evening or during the early morning hours of the 21st please upload dashcam video here as well.
