Chaplain Contee Honored as Living Legend of Alexandria
Myron Contee, the longtime chaplain at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, was recently honored as a Living Legend of Alexandria. Chaplain Contee was one of nine highly dedicated community members selected in the Living Legends of Alexandria’s 2024 class.
The Sheriff’s Office nominated Chaplain Contee for this honor in recognition of his work to support the spiritual well-being of hundreds of incarcerated individuals each year. Sheriff Sean Casey and several colleagues from the Sheriff’s Office attended the Living Legends reception on November 7 at the George Washington Masonic Memorial and were proud to see Chaplain Contee honored.
Chaplain Contee has served as the jail chaplain for 15 years. He coordinates faith-based services and programs, delivered by volunteers, to inmates, and he also works with other members of the clergy to facilitate specific pastoral service requests and ensure inmates can observe religious practices, diets and holidays.
Chaplain Contee works closely with Inmate Services staff and provides spiritual support to inmates who seek his guidance. This can help them during their incarceration while they are separated from their families and dealing with the circumstances that led to their arrest. By bolstering their faith, Chaplain Contee also strengthens their foundation for success when they return to the community. In doing so, Chaplain Contee has a significant and lasting impact on these returning citizens, their families and the community.
