Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule of Services for the City of Alexandria
All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and many will be closed on Friday, November 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. The following list includes schedule information for other City facilities and partner agencies.
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS):
Wednesday-Friday, November 27-29: Closed.
Alexandria Transit Company (DASH):
Thursday, November 28: DASH bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Alexandria Transit Company’s administrative office will be closed.
Friday, November 29: All DASH bus routes will operate on normal schedules. The Alexandria Transit Company’s administrative office will be closed.
All DASH services are fare-free, including the King Street Trolley, which operates every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. For more information, visit DASH.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA):
Thursday, November 28: Closed.
Friday, November 29: Normal operations. Adoptions begin at 12 p.m.

Wednesday, November 27: The following Commonwealth of Virginia courts in Alexandria will close at noon: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and Court Services Unit.
Thursday-Friday, November 28-29: The following Commonwealth of Virginia courts in Alexandria will be closed: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit.
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV):
Thursday-Saturday, November 28-30: Closed.
Wednesday, November 27: Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will close at 1 p.m.
Thursday-Friday, November 28-29: Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will be closed.
All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5800; the Domestic Violence hotline at 703.746.4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703.683.7273.
Thursday, November 28: All City museums will be closed.
Friday, November 29: The Alexandria Black History Museum will be closed. All other museums will operate normally.

Note: Freedom House will only be open on weekends through January.
Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29: Closed.
The City’s impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed City holidays. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Wednesday, November 27: Alexandria Law Library will close at noon.
Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29: All libraries will be closed.
Thursday, November 28: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location. Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.
Friday, November 29: Normal parking restrictions will be enforced.
Recreation, Nature, and Arts Centers:
Thursday, November 28: All Recreation, Nature and Art Centers are closed.
Friday, November 29: Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, and Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation Center, and Patrick Henry Recreation Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other facilities will be closed.
Residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of November 25. Trash pickup will begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 28. Curbside food waste will be delayed by one day. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open on Saturday, November 30.
Thursday, November 28: Closed.
Friday, November 29: Normal operations.
