About Us
Discover Alexandria’s Nature Center, where visitors can meet live animals, explore interactive exhibits, and learn about the natural and cultural history of nearby Dora Kelley Nature Park. Enjoy year-round programs and hands-on fun for all ages.
History
Jerome “Buddie” Ford worked for the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities for 47 years.
Weekdays at the Nature Center
Wednesdays
Join us for a short story in our library starting at 11 a.m. every Wednesday.
Thursdays
Watch our animal ambassadors snack on their favorite foods during Animal Brunch starting at 11 a.m. every Thursday.
Fridays
Get to know our animal residents at the Nature Center during our Animal Meet & Greet starting at 11 a.m. every Friday.

School Programs
Bring the Nature Center to your classroom with engaging, interactive programs aligned with Virginia's Standard of Learning. Explore topics like habitats, ecosystems, geology, oceans & more. Visit our Educational Resources page or email Arianna Kelly to schedule a program.

Scouts Programs
Bring your troop to the Nature Center to earn a badge, patch, or challenge. We provide the activities & materials & schedule a time that works for you. Troops supply badge or award.
Custom project available for individual badges/awards.
$50/troop up to 15 kids ($5/extra kid)

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities at the Nature Center are available for ages 16 and up, including Visitor Experience and Garden Volunteer roles. Group opportunities are also available by request. Contact Paige Edwards for details. Visit alexandriava.gov/Volunteer for full listings and to apply.

Guest & Youth Safety Policy
Teens 13–17 must be supervised by a paying adult (18+) unless a Teen Registration Form is on file. Children 12 & under must be with an adult at all times; ages 5 & under require the adult in the water within arm’s reach. Guests 13+ must show a photo ID. This ensures safety for everyone at the pool.
