The Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to adopt the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) operating budget of $979.1 million on Wednesday, April 29. The new budget will go into effect on July 1, 2026. 

HRP Group is seeking a City investment to spur redevelopment of the former Potomac River coal plant site. The proposal would use future tax revenues to fund $135 million in remediation and public infrastructure to transform the waterfront into a new mixed-use destination.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will construct two replacement bridge spans across King Street and Commonwealth Avenue over three weekends in the month of May as part of the Alexandria Station and Bridge Improvements Project. Work will also affect DASH Bus Routes in the area.
