Spring2Action-Time to Make Your Early Gift to Historic Alexandria
Friends,
Today kicks off early giving for the annual Spring2ACTion day of giving. Spring2ACTion brings together organizations in the City of Alexandria to raise necessary funds to support special projects.
This year, Historic Alexandria needs YOUR HELP in raising funds for the upcoming exhibit, What the Public Thinks Counts! - Reframing the Black Image dedicated to featuring the life and work on Moss H. Kendrix, the father of Black Advertising. Opening this summer at the Alexandria Black History Museum, the exhibit will examine how Kendrix’s work revolutionized the public relations industry by highlighting the Black experience, moving away from caricatures to showing African American families, similar to what was produced for white audiences.
The Moss Kendrix collection includes over 900 photographs and a wide range of archival materials that include advertisements, press releases, programs, magazines, and correspondence that document this PR firm and their new approach to marketing. With the support of a 2021 Institute for Museum and Library Sciences grant, many of these items have been digitized and made available for exhibition.
Spring2Action’s early giving is open April 10-23, with the 24 hour fundraising day taking place on April 24th.
Please follow our emails and social media to learn more about the Moss Kendrix collection and Kendrix’s revolutionary marketing.
Thank you for your continued support of Historic Alexandria!
