The Office of Historic Alexandria and Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association are co-sponsoring a Civil War Sesquicentennial community planning meeting at George Washington Masonic National Memorial, 101 Callahan Dr., from 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday, June 13 – Public Hearing on Moving City Council, School Board Elections
The Alexandria City Council will hold a public hearing at its meeting at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall, (301 King St.) to receive comments on a proposal to move City Council and School Board elections from May to November, beginning in 2012. The proposed ordinance would make no other changes to the electoral process (such as changing the length of Council or School Board terms, or staggering elections), since any other change would require the General Assembly to approve an amendment to the City Charter. A copy of the proposed ordinance, and additional information, can be found at http://dockets.alexandriava.gov/fy09/051609ph/di6.pdf

Following the public hearing, the Council will take final action on the proposed ordinance.
