Jaycees Honor Deputy Marybeth Plaskus with 2013 William G. Truesdale Award

Congratulations to Deputy Sheriff Marybeth Plaskus on receiving the Alexandria Jaycees’ 2013 William G. Truesdale Award. Deputy Plaskus was honored at the Jaycees’ annual Community Appreciation Night at City Hall on Thursday, March 14, along with other City staff. The award is presented annually to a deserving deputy in honor of Deputy William G. Truesdale who was killed in the line of duty in 1981.

Since joining the Sheriff’s Office in 2008, Deputy Plaskus has earned the reputation as a hard worker who performs with excellence and is committed to serving the Office to the best of her ability. Assigned to the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, Deputy Plaskus volunteers for extra assignments and takes the initiative to learn about the Office’s mission and operations not just inside the Detention Center, but in the Alexandria community, as well. Deputy Plaskus serves as a Field Training Deputy and trains new Deputy Sheriff recruits; she is a technician and trainer for the Office’s Project Lifesaver program, which helps families by returning loved ones who have wandered away from home due to reduced cognitive abilities; and she is a member of the Sheriff’s Office’s Crisis Negotiation Team and the Career Development Committee.

On her personal time, Deputy Plaskus gives back through her commitment to the youth of her community. She serves as a volunteer assistant coach at Woodbridge Senior High’s girls’ volleyball team and helped the team reach the playoffs for the past two years. Deputy Plaskus, having played volleyball through middle and high school and in college, believes it is important that she share her knowledge of the game with her team with the same commitment that her coaches shared their time and knowledge of the sport with her.

In addition to coaching the team, Deputy Plaskus also serves as mentor, teaching her girls the rules of volleyball as well as valuable life lessons. She has been successful reaching her teen players when other adult coaches could not. She is committed to the success of team, both on and off the court. Because of her dedication to Woodbridge Senior High and the success she has experienced as assistant coach, Deputy Plaskus received the Sheriff’s Office’s 2012 Community Services award.

For her commitment to excellence at work and in her community, Deputy Plaskus is well deserving of the Jaycees’ 2013 William G. Truesdale Award.
