City of Alexandria to Hold Annual USA and City Birthday Celebration on Saturday, July 11

The celebration includes fun for the entire family, including musical entertainment, refreshments, and birthday cake. The celebration opens with a performance by The Tower House Band at 6:30 p.m. and the featured performance of the evening is a concert by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at 8:30 p.m., culminating with a Grand Fireworks Finale featuring Tchaikovsky's “1812 Overture” with cannon support by the United States Marine Corps Basic Training School beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Splash with DASH to the Old Town Pool

The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH), in partnership with Advocates for Alexandria Aquatics, the City of Alexandria, and more than 20 local businesses, have announced “Splash with DASH,” an initiative to get families and children to the Old Town Pool this summer. From July 1 through September 7, the AT 10 route will become the free Pool Bus on weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and on weekends between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

What do you do with Tree Debris?
Due to recent severe weather, an abundance of felled trees are throughout the City. The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services Resource Recovery Division will assist residents with the disposal of tree debris. Residents are encouraged to set fallen trees and limbs out for yard waste disposal to be recycled. Please do not place debris on piles set aside by City contractors.

Summer camps and activities are available for youth ages 2-17 and include sports, dance, creative arts, computer, chess, enrichment, nature, adventure, Out of School Time (residents only) and classic camps. The Summer of Smiles brochure makes planning the summer even easier with an index listing camps by week offered and age group.

Summer Concert Schedule

Summer concerts highlight local talent and feature a wide range of music from flamenco to jazz and from pop rock to barbershop. All the performances are free and held outdoors featuring lawn seating, and attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Commissions - A Way to Get Involved
Commissions compose a formal system through which citizens can advise City Council on issues affecting the City. Commission meetings are open to the public and vacancies are posted on the Boards & Commissions website. RPCA's commissions include the Beautification; Commission for the Arts; Park & Recreation; and Waterfront.

An environmental management system is a set of management processes and procedures that allow RPCA to analyze, control and reduce the environmental impact of its activities, products and services and operate with greater efficiency and control.
