A Message from the Sheriff

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Hello Neighbors,

The men and women of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office are eager to keep you up to date with our public safety and community outreach efforts.

Our specially trained and certified child safety seat technicians have installed more than 250 seats so far this year. I’m proud to let you know that I regularly receive letters and emails from people using this free service who express their appreciation for the knowledge and professionalism of our technicians. To make this service more convenient, you may now request an appointment online or call 703.746.5016.

We continue to reach out to children and young adults throughout Alexandria. Our deputies involved in mentoring at Charles Barrett regularly visit their students at school over lunch and earlier this month they took part in a special outing at the Sport Rock Climbing center. Not only did deputies encourage their students to challenge themselves and build trust through supervised rock climbing but the Alexandria Sheriff’s Association made a donation to help fund this rewarding program!

We recently hosted three high school seniors from T.C. Williams and one from Commonwealth Academy who spent their Senior Experience exploring Alexandria’s criminal justice system. Deputies gave them tours of the Detention Center and Courthouse, took them on ride-alongs in the community, and escorted them to the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy and Emergency Vehicle Operations Center where they experienced behind the wheel training in a simulator. The students also spent time at the Police Department and then returned to the Sheriff’s Office for a graduation ceremony where they talked about what they had learned and what they want to do in the future.

Also in June, the Sheriff’s Office and our community partners teamed up for a Drug Take Back event to help prevent the abuse and theft of potentially dangerous medications. The Neighborhood Pharmacy sponsored and hosted the event and the Del Ray Business Association generously funded the expense of drug disposal. In just four hours, deputies collected more than 150 pounds of unwanted medication!  Through effective public-private partnerships like this, we can all work together to make Alexandria a safer community.

We are grateful for your ongoing support! Please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff to let us know how we can better serve you and please stay in touch with us by checking this website and following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you,
