Alexandria Police Promotes New Deputy Chief

The Alexandria Police Department has named the new Deputy Chief to replace Hassan Aden, who recently retired to take the Chief of Police position in Greenville, North Carolina. Chief Earl L. Cook promoted Captain David Huchler to be the new Deputy Chief of Police.

Deputy Chief Huchler has served with the Alexandria Police Department for 21 years. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy - Session 234 and holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement, both from George Mason University.

Deputy Chief Huchler has a wide breadth of experience within the police department having held positions in each of the four bureaus. He most recently commanded the Traffic, Special Events and Parking Division of the Operations Support Bureau (OSB). In addition to his position in OSB, he is the Special Operations Team Commander.

Prior to that, Deputy Chief Huchler commanded the Support Services Division and oversaw the 2010 Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) re-accreditation process for the police department. During this time he was selected and served as a fellow with the Police Foundation Fellowship Program in Washington, D.C.

Deputy Chief Huchler has served in a wide variety of assignments in the Police Department. While steadily moving up the ranks, Deputy Chief Huchler has served in patrol, criminal investigations and the Office of Intelligence and Homeland Security. He has also served as a special operations team member and a Community Oriented Policing (COPS) officer.

Deputy Chief Huchler will oversee the Patrol Operations Bureau in his new assignment and work with his staff to continue to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Alexandria.
