Application Instructions for a Concealed Weapon Permit
Residents of the City of Alexandria wishing to carry a concealed weapon must submit a concealed weapon application to the Clerk of the Circuit Court. Follow this link, Clerk of the Circuit Court, to see further instructions and obtain a copy of the permit application. Completed applications must be turned in to the Clerk of the Circuit Court, 520 King St., Alexandria, Virginia. Or call (703) 746-4044 for more information.
Fingerprinting Service
Fingerprinting services are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointment is needed, walk-in only.

Expungements for Alexandria residents are now handled at the Alexandria Courthouse located at 520 King Street.
Citizens may need to be fingerprinted for a variety of reasons: employment, permits, etc. The Volunteer Office of the Police Department offers this as a public service. You must have your own fingerprint card(s), which should be provided by whoever has requested your fingerprints. We also do not accept paper copies of fingerprint cards; they must be printed on heavier cardstock paper. You will be required to produce a valid government-issued photo identification card such as a driver's license. Expired ID cards will not be an acceptable form of identification. The cost for fingerprinting on your personally provided cards is $10.00 for the first card and $5.00 for each additional card. Cash, check, or credit card are acceptable forms of payment, but you MUST have EXACT change if paying by cash. We now accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or Discover credit cards on Tuesdays only. We also do NOT take appointments.

Firearms Registration/Handgun Purchases
The City of Alexandria does not require a permit for gun ownership and does not require guns to be registered.
No firearm or airgun (BB) can be discharged within the City limits except by law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties. For more information, call 703-838-4530.
