Project Status (December 2012)The Safeway at King Street is currently under review for final engineering and design. The site plan has been released and the building permits are under review. Safeway has indicated that a store closing date has not been set yet. A temporary pharmacy has been located on Marlee Way, preventing any interruption in service for customers. A pre-construction meeting will be held with the community before any demolition or construction is permitted to begin. The overall construction period should last approximately 18 months. Public Hearings:Safeway received approvals from the Planning Commission and City Council to demolish the existing retail building at 3526 King Street and to construct a new 61,949 square foot Lifestyle Safeway and an additional 3,000+ square foot retail building on the site. The project will include building and site improvements, parking facitilies, and all associated infrastructure.
