City of Alexandria, VA
City of Alexandria to hold Lake Barcroft Dam Information MeetingDam Inundation Study For Immediate Release: June 22, 2009 More Information: Residents are invited to attend a Lake Barcroft Dam informational meeting on Wednesday, June 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the William Ramsay Elementary School, 5700 Sanger Avenue. This meeting will provide residents along Holmes Run, Backlick Run, Cameron Run, and Hooffs Run with information about the City’s Lake Barcroft Dam Inundation Study. The Lake Barcroft Dam Inundation Study was first performed as part of the Lake Barcroft Watershed Improvement District, which was required by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation as part of the statewide dam safety program. This study concluded that in the event of a dam breach or other flooding conditions, many low-lying properties along the waterways may be flooded. The City of Alexandria conducted another Dam Inundation Study, which provided additional data and created a draft emergency management plan for the possibility of a Dam failure. The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City's Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
