Clinical Services

The Alexandria Health Department provides medical services to people who live, work, or play in the City of Alexandria, Virginia. Some services have eligibility rules, like how much a family makes, where someone lives, etc. Review each program summary for clinic times and contact information.

BabyCare & Case Management

BabyCare is a Medicaid approved program provided by the Health Department to foster safe and healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Services are available to eligible pregnant women and/or children up to the age of two. For more information, visit

All services are offered by appointment only.

Visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission to review product recalls of toys, nursery furniture, car seats, etc. 



Breastfeeding information and counseling is available at the Casey Health Center and Main Office locations for Alexandria Health Department clients. Services include free manual breast pumps, and loan of electric breast pumps to qualified mothers. Please contact us for more information.   

Family Planning

The Family Planning clinic offers services to women interested in preconceptual planning or a method of birth control. Program offers gynecological services, including lab work, pelvic examination, pap smear and breast examination. Select birth control methods are provided.

Clinic hours are:

  • Monday:  1 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday:  7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday:  7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Thursday:  1 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday:  7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

HIV/AIDS Services

HIV Counseling and Testing:

Free, confidential HIV rapid testing is available. No appointments or eligibility requirements are needed.

  •  Wednesday: 1 to 3 p.m.
  •  Thursday: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Other Services:

  • Primary Medical Care/Case Management: Comprehensive Services for persons with HIV/AIDS, including medical care, health guidance, dental services, nutrition counseling and supplements. Please call for more information.
  • Care Clinic/Dental Clinic for Persons Living with HIV: By appointment only by calling a member of the Casey Management Team at the Casey Health Center. Restricted to Alexandria residents.
  • ADAP - AIDS Drug Assistance Program: Income eligible people with HIV infection can receive designated drugs at no cost. This program provides selective prescriptions for HIV infection at no cost. Please call for more information.

Immunization Clinic

The Alexandria Health Department offers routine immunizations for infants, teens and adults. Walk-in and appointment-only clinics are both available.

Please bring all immunization records and insurance cards with you and present them at time of registration.

Immunization Clinic Hours:  

Walk-In Clinics:  

  • Monday: 8 to 11 a.m. (serving the first 20 patients to arrive)
  • Monday: 2 to 6 p.m. (serving the first 25 patients to arrive)

Remaining Clinic Days are by Appointment Only (call 703.746.4888): 

  • Tuesday: 8 to 11 a.m. 
  • Tuesday: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesday: 8 to 11 a.m.
  • Wednesday: 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Thursday: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Note: TB skin testing is NOT performed on Thursdays)
  • Friday: 8 to 11 a.m.

Adults (19 years of age and older) only:  

  • There is a charge for some adult vaccines.
  • Adults needing immunizations and TB skin testing or TB risk assessment, please refer to the immunization clinic hours above.

Please note that the safe administration of vaccines is our paramount concern. Before walk-in clinic exceeds our ability to safely provide vaccines, we will close registration for vaccines and will suggest a future walk-in date or schedule an appointment for you for your vaccinations. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Newcomer Health Clinic

Services include health and tuberculosis screening, and physicals for newly arrived refugees into the country and referral to other health, mental health and social services in the City.

Nutrition Services/WIC

The WIC program provides vouchers for nutritious food, nutrition counseling and health information to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and for infants and children up to the age of 5 years. All services are by appointment only. 

Nutrition counseling is available on a limited basis to other Health Department clients.

Health and nutrition programs are also available for educational and nonprofit groups in the community (depending on staff availability).

OB/GYN Services

Casey Health Center: 1200 N. Howard Street - 703.746.4820 

Offers pregnancy, postpartum care and resources to income eligible women with Virginia Medicaid, Anthem Healthkeepers Plus, InTotal Health, United Health Care or no insurance. Must be Alexandria City resident. All services are by appointment only. 

Walk-in eligibility hours are as follows: 

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.


Casey Health Center: 1200 N. Howard Street - 703.746.4820

The pharmacy provides selected medications for uninsured patients of the Health Department and Neighborhood Health. Please call for more information. 

  • Monday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 9:00 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 1 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(Closed for lunch each day 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.)

Pregnancy Testing

Walk-in pregnancy testing hours are as follows:

  •  Monday:  10 a.m. to 12 pm. and 1 to 6 p.m.
  •  Tuesday:  8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.
  •  Wednesday:  8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
  •  Thursday: 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  •  Friday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

There is no residency requirement.  There is usually small charge; free for teens.

Rainbow Tuesdays Clinic

A clinic for gay, bisexual and same gender loving men and persons of trans experience. Welcoming and safe. Free sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, HIV rapid testing, Hepatitis B immunizations and referrals. You do not have to live in Virginia to come.

Walk-in clinic hours are:

  • Tueday:  5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Clinic

Free, confidential testing and treatment of Sexually-Transmitted Infections (STI). No appointment is necessary, and there are no residency restrictions.

Walk-in STI testing hours are:

Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic

The TB Clinic provides evaluation, treatment and preventive treatment programs for tuberculosis (TB). Most services are by appointment only; please call for an appointment.

TB risk assessment and TB testing:
