This page contains useful navigation information including tips on how to search, view, and print docket items.
Tips to Search
- Entering a single word will retrieve items with that word and forms of that word (i.e. "budget").
- Entering multiple words will retrieve items with the words or phrase exactly as entered (i.e. "capital budget").
- Search supports the logical "AND”, “OR”, “AND NO”, “NEAR” operators
- To retrieve items that include word A and word B, use an AND between terms (i.e "budget AND revenue").
- To retrieve items that include either word A or word B, use an upper case OR between terms (i.e. "capital OR operating").
- To retrieve items that contain one keyword, but not another. Can be used only between two words, not between phrases (i.e. "capital AND NO operating").
- To retrieve items based on words being in near proximity to each other (near means within 11 words) (i.e. "budget NEAR operating").
The Dockets page provides useful information on legislative files. It provides details of the legislative files which includes, but is not limited to the name, the status, the body approving, and approval dates. Click on the Details tab to view this information. It also shows the text of the legislation. The Reports tab provides pdf copies of the legislative file.
To view text online, you must click the Text tab at the bottom of the page. The History tab provides history of the legislation; when the file/item was approved, denied, tabled, amended, etc.
Click on advanced search to narrow your search by File #, File Type, Meeting Date, etc.
Legislative Files Glossary of Terms
Each piece of legislation is assigned a number, which the City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Old & Historic Districts, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Parker-Gray District, and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) uses for tracking purposes. City Council files numbers are in the form Fiscal Year – Sequential Number e.g. 13-0694, indicating the fiscal year the matter was first received by the meeting body and the chronological sequence.
File ID numbers for cases before the Planning Commission, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Old & Historic Districts, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Parker-Gray District, and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) are an abbreviated form of the case number. For example if the case number is SUP #2012-0025, the file ID is SUP12-025.
Meeting Bodies entertain various types of files that may or may not end up in legislation.
- Ordinances: An ordinance is legislation which has the force of law. All ordinances require two readings. A public hearing is required at second reading before passage of any ordinances.
- Resolution: A resolution is a form of written proposal used for making declarations, stating policies and making decisions where some other forum is not required.
- Report or Communication: Legislation presented to City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Old & Historic Districts, Board of Architectural Review (BAR) - Parker-Gray District, and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) may not require action. It is being submitted for information purposes.
- Minutes: Minutes from Council or other boards and commission meetings.
- Proclamations: Legislation that the Mayor/City Council will proclaim or officially announce.
- Appointment: Legislation proposing nominations to City boards and commissions.

Information pertaining to a specific piece legislation.
- Name: This is a short description of a file that can help when searching for that file.
- Title: This is the title of the legislation as it will be considered by the Council or meeting body.
- Memorandum: This is the working text of the legislation. This section of the document contains information about proposed legislation.
- Staff: This section of the legislation indicates staff members that worked, reviewed and approved the proposed file.
- Body: This section of the legislation is the actual language that Council considers or for adoption or approval. As legislation is considered by the Council, amendments may be made. Each time the legislation is amended, a new matter version of the file is created. By comparing various matter versions of the legislation, you can track the changes made.
- Attachments: These items are attachments to the legislation itself and are approved at the time the legislation passes. These attachments contain other information about the legislation, such as transmittal letters, fiscal notes, staff reports. Attachment files and documents are typically associated with applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat or other applications. If your computer has the related application or a compatible application, clicking a document will open the files in the host application. If your computer does not have the compatible application associated with the attachment type, you will be unable to open the attachment. In some cases, compatible applications may be downloaded from the manufacturer or elsewhere on the internet.
- Indexes and Code Sections: This section indicated additional legislative files that may be associated with this legislation.
- In Control: This entry defines the meeting body that is action on the proposed legislation.
Export: Use this to export legislative file information to Excel, Word or PDF. *Reports Tab (located at the top of the page)

This field gives a short history of the legislation, including when it was introduced and when action was taken by either the Council or another meeting body.
