After-school program in which Hispanic youth ages 9-17 participate in structured learning activities. The program focuses on life skills and reducing high-risk behaviors, including the use of alcohol, drugs and other substances.

Breastfeeding information and counseling is available at the Casey Health Center for Alexandria Health Department clients. Services include free manual breast pumps, and loan of electric breast pumps to qualified mothers.

The King Street Child Health Clinic provides routine preventive health services for infants and children through age 5, and physicals for day care and school entrance through age 11. Please call for appointment.

Preventive dental care and education is a priority for children. Services for CHILDREN (ages 4 to 21) include cleaning, fluoride, sealant, complete oral examinations, filling, and extraction. By appointment only.

The King Street Family Planning clinic offers services to women interested in preconceptual planning or a method of birth control. Program offers complete gynecological services, including lab work, pelvic examination, pap smear and breast examination. Selected birth control methods are also provided.

As of June 20, 2011, the new Family Planning clinic hours at King Street are as follows:

Please note that the safe administration of vaccine is our paramount concern.  Before our immunization clinic exceeds the Health Department's ability to safely provide vaccines, we will close registration for vaccines and recommend the next date and time that vaccines will be offered.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

The Alexandria Health Department offers routine immunizations for infants, teens and adults**.  Walk-in and appointment-only clinics are both available.

Immunization Clinic hours are:

• Monday, 9:00am to 11:00am (12 months through 18 years -- by appointment only)

        Remaining Clinic Days are for Children & Adults:

• Monday, 2:00pm to 6:00pm by appointment only (last available time is 5:40pm)
• Tuesday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm walk-in
• Wednesday, 8:00am to 11:00am walk-in

Please bring all immunization records with you and present them at time of registration.

** Adults (19 years of age and older) only: 

• There is a charge for some adult vaccines.
• Adults needing a TB skin test or TB risk assessment only, please refer to the TB Clinic section for times of testing.
• Adults needing immunizations and TB skin testing or TB risk assessment, please refer to the immunization clinic hours above.

Children who are already enrolled in Child Health services are screened for lead levels. For questions about screening of other children, call Child Health at the number above.

In certain instances, the Division of Environmental Health will perform a full environmental inspection with sampling. Please call for additional information or handouts.

The WIC program provides vouchers for nutritious food, nutrition counseling and health information to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and for infants and children up to the age of 5 years. All services are by appointment only.

Nutrition counseling is available on a limited basis to other Health Department clients.

Health and nutrition programs are also available for educational and nonprofit groups in the community (depending on staff availability).

There is no residency requirement.  There is usually a small charge; free for teens.

The Health Department has a limited capacity for home visits for high risk maternal and child clientele. Please call for additional information.

This clinic is a screening clinic for Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons. FREE, walk-in Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis screening, HIV Rapid Test counseling and testing, and Hepatitis A/B (Twinrix) immunizations. If you have symptoms, please visit our STI Clinic (see below) on Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

Rainbow Tuesday Clinic hours : 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

Services include tuberculosis screening, health history of newly arrived refugees into the country, and referral to other health, mental health or social services in the City.

Free confidential information and treatment of Sexually-Transmitted Infections (STI). No appointment is necessary, and there are no residency restrictions.

The TB Clinic provides evaluation, treatment and preventive treatment programs for tuberculosis (TB).

Walk-in TB skin testing and TB risk assessment FOR ADULTS ONLY (19 years of age and older) is offered at the King Street location on the following day:

• Tuesdays -- 8:00 am to 11:00am

The Health Department's Well Child clinic provides routine preventive health services for infants and children through age 5, and physicals for daycare and school entrance through age 11. Please call for appointment.

WIC stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. The goal of the program is to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and operated in Virginia through the Virginia Department of Health. The program provides screening and referrals to other health, welfare and social service agencies, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support as well as supplemental nutritious foods. To be eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must meet categorical, residential, income and nutrition risk requirements. Please call for additional information.
