If you are caring for a loved one, there are resources available to help you provide care, gather information and support you as a caregiver.
Alexandria Adult Day Services Center
The Adult Day Services Center serves adults age 55 or older who need supervision during the day due to dementia, medical conditions or mental health needs. The program is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and transportation to the program is available. Daily activities include a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack; therapeutic recreation activities; medical monitoring and medication administration in a safe and secure environment.
Monthly Caregiver Support Group
This group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Adult Day Services Center from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Participants are full-time caregivers or family members or friends providing part-time caregiving. Participants share their experiences, provide support for each other and receive resources to assist them with care giving. For more information, contact Jennifer Sarisky at 703.746.6024.

Northern Virginia Ombudsman Program
Alexandria participates in the Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, which is operated through the Fairfax County Office of Aging. How can an Ombudsman help caregivers? An Ombudsman can:
Mental Health, Intellectual Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services
To schedule an appointment, call 703.746.3400 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Ask to speak with an intake worker. The intake worker will assist you in scheduling an appointment.
