A Message from the Sheriff

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

The men and women of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office are proud to keep you up to date with our public safety and community outreach efforts.

In April, the Office underwent re-accreditation and assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) spent four days in Alexandria, observing our operations, reviewing our files and hearing from the public. Our feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the assessors found the Office to be in 100% compliance.

Our specially trained and certified child safety seat technicians have installed more than 150 seats so far this year. Another deputy recently completed safety seat training to help ensure our Office can meet the critical needs of parents, grandparents and other care providers.

We continue to reach out to children and young adults throughout Alexandria and this spring, several of our deputies spent valuable time in Alexandria City Public Schools  – and one of the highlights for me was being invited to Cora Kelly to read to first graders for Read Across America! Deputies visited with students and talked about their jobs and gave safety tips at the Ramsay Elementary Career Day. They also tutored a student at Lyles-Crouch and mentored kids at Charles Barrett. They reached out to older students, too, by promoting alcohol and tobacco awareness with kids from Jefferson-Houston, Minnie Howard and T.C. Williams, and by instructing T.C. students in basic defensive tactics during the physical education classes.

Finally, we will soon welcome criminal justice students from T.C. who will be spending their Senior Experience with our Office and the Police Department, seeing firsthand the important work deputies, officers and civilians perform to keep Alexandria safe.

We are grateful for your ongoing support and we are proud to know we can count on you as our public safety partners! Please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff to let us know how we can better serve you and please stay in touch with us by checking this website and following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you,
