Sheriff Dana Lawhorne
A Message from the Sheriff
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
in 2015, the Sheriff’s Office has been active in the community, maintaining our
commitment to serve the people of Alexandria with pride and integrity. Deputies
have been involved in distributing warm winter coats to kids in need and mentoring
students in our public schools. We also took part in the tribute to law
enforcement offered by the George Washington Masonic Memorial as the Memorial
was illuminated in blue to show support for Alexandria’s deputies, police
officers, fire marshals and other law enforcement personnel.
a recent community forum, I joined other City criminal justice officials on a
panel to hear from residents and business people who shared their questions, compliments
and concerns. While we welcomed the opportunity to address any issues in a
public forum, I hope those who need to discuss an issue will not hesitate to
contact me or my staff. We want to know how we
can better serve you.
spring, the Sheriff’s Office will undergo a re-accreditation assessment from the
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., and we are also
undertaking improvements to the physical plant of the William G. Truesdale
Adult Detention Center to keep operations there running safely and smoothly.
forward to seeing you as we spend time in our neighborhoods, cleaning up parks
and public spaces with the Inmate Work Detail and attending community events
like First Thursday in Del Ray later this spring.
