FOUNDER’S PARK DOG EXERCISE AREA TO CLOSE FOR ANNUAL MAINTENANCEThe Founder’s Park Dog Exercise Area, located at 351 N. Union St., will close the week of March 14 for annual turf rehabilitation and other maintenance activities. The park is scheduled to reopen Memorial Day weekend. WITTER FIELDS PRE-CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITY MEETING & GROUND BREAKING CEREMONYThe public is invited to attend a Community Pre-Construction Meeting to discuss the upcoming athletic field construction for the Witter Property located at 2600 Witter Drive. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Bishop Ireton, 201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, VA 22314. The contractor and City staff will present information and answer questions concerning the upcoming construction of approved athletic improvements to the property, including a new diamond field, two new rectangular fields, restrooms, park pavilions and parking. The official ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 8:30 a.m. at 2600 Witter Dr. JONES POINT PARK IMPROVEMENTS UPDATEIn close collaboration with the City of Alexandria and the National Park Service, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project is embarking on a major restoration effort at Jones Point Park. Construction efforts began in December 2010 with completion anticipated in June 2012. To maintain public safety during construction, access to some portions of the park will be temporarily or intermittently closed while improvements are being made.
