Adopt-a-Garden 

The Adopt-a-Garden program is a cooperative venture between the City of Alexandria and its citizens. Through an agreement with the City, an individual, community, or group assumes responsibility for assisting in the maintenance of a garden located on public property.  The program was created after many involved citizens and organizations expressed interest in creating new gardens on city property or maintaining existing city gardens.

Adopt-a-Park 

The Adopt-a-Park program is a cooperative venture between the State of Virginia, the City of Alexandria, and Alexandrian citizens to improve the appearance and condition of Alexandria’s small urban parks and open spaces. Community groups monitor and clean up their park at least once a week from April through November. City officials visit these parks once a month and award points based on the park’s condition. At the season’s end, cash awards are made to participating groups based on the points earned. Award funds are frequently used by the organizations for park improvements such as benches, additional play equipment, drinking fountains, and landscaping.

Marina 

Parks, walking/bike trails, quaint restaurants, shops, and historic sites surround the marina. For boating enthusiasts, the marina is a 3 mile cruise from Washington DC and Maryland. In addition to affording a spectacular view of the Potomac River, the City Marina has overnight boat slips plus additional short-term docking space on sea walls and adjacent areas. The City Marina offers docking for pleasure boats and commercial vessels. For boaters who wish to stay overnight, restroom and shower facilities are available. One 30 amp electrical connection and water hose bib (in season) are available for each boat slip. Alexandria is a dog friendly city ,in fact, there is a public access dog park within easy walking distance of the marina.

Park Rules and Regulations

Per City Code Section 6-1-8, the following rules and regulations apply to City of Alexandria Park facilities:

• Park hours are from sunrise to sunset, except by permitted use
• Dogs must be on a leash, except in designated areas, and handlers must clean up after their pet
• Use trash cans to dispose of all waste
• No amplified sound, except by permitted use
• No alcoholic beverages

Additional rules at fields and active recreation sites

• No dogs allowed on fields
• No golfing
• Vehicles in designated areas only; the City of Alexandria is not responsible for damage to vehicles in this lot
• No vehicle maintenance allowed on site
• No soft toss on diamond fields

Additional rules in natural areas

• Stay on trails to protect native plants and to avoid poison ivy
• Disturbing park wildlife or plants is prohibited

Additional rules in playgrounds

• Children should be accompanied by an adult
• Children should use age-appropriate equipment
• Avoid use of equipment when surfaces are wet or hot
• Proper footwear required

Additional rules near Ponds

• Do not feed the wildlife
• Do not allow your pet in the pond
• No fishing in the pond
• No entering the water

Additional rules along the waterfront

• Park hours are from 5am to 10pm, except by permitted use
• No roller skates, rollerblades, or skateboards
• No ball playing or thrown objects
• No fishing in the marina area
