On January 23, Chief Earl Cook was honored with the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency. The award is given to supervisors, who have been nominated by a Reservist or Guardsmen, in recognition of the support provided directly to the nominator. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Guardsman or Reservist through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Chief Cook was nominated by Sergeant Richard Magnum.
