Parking Standards for New Development Study
Parking standards study to begin
At the direction of City Council, the City of Alexandria will begin a study on Parking Standards for New Development. The purpose of the study is to review the City’s parking standards, which have not had a comprehensive review since 1992. Non-auto travel (including transit use, cycling and walking) has steadily increased since the City’s current standards were set and there are indications that per household car ownership is declining in areas with better access to transit. This project will conduct the analysis to recalibrate parking standards for new development. One of the first steps in the study is to conduct a parking occupancy count of a sample of recently constructed multifamily residential buildings in the City. The community will be notified and invited to participate when the parking study begins.
