BRAC-133 News Bulletin: August 15, 2011This is the second in a series of updates on the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure)-133 relocation underway at the Mark Center. Transit News: Alexandria’s Local Motion program is advertising schedules for several new bus routes that are providing additional service to Mark Center. View new routes and schedules at http://alexandriava.gov/LocalMotion. Department of Defense employees may be able to ride free on buses by showing their Mark Center identification card. The federal government is paying 100% of these new bus route costs, as well as for additional shuttle service. Parking District: A new daytime restricted parking district has been established for neighborhoods affected by BRAC. Approximately two-thirds of the applications requesting inclusion in the parking district have been approved. Staff continues to review the applications that have been submitted. Signage for approved blocks will be installed on or before August 30. After that date, parking restrictions will be enforced on blocks where signage is posted. Traffic Management: Alexandria Police will implement a traffic management plan at key intersections near BRAC-133. During the morning and afternoon rush hours, police employees and sheriff’s deputies will be located at several intersections to keep traffic moving and prevent vehicle backups within intersections. The traffic management plan will begin after September 5, when schools reopen. |
