Media Advisory SMOKE ALARM ALERTS RESIDENT TO HOUSE FIREFor immediate release: April 30, 2012 WHEN: APRIL 30, 2012 WHERE: 200 BLOCK, SOUTH PAYNE STREET, ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA WHO: ALEXANDRIA FIRE DPEARTMENT WHAT: Firefighters from the City of Alexandria Fire Department, assisted by Fairfax County Fire Department, responded to a report of a kitchen fire in a home located in the 200 block of South Payne Street in the City of Alexandria at 12:36 pm.. Arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the front and rear of the three story townhouse. Upon entry, firefighters extinguished a fire at the rear of the home. The fire was reported out at 1:05 pm. One resident was at home at the time of the fire. The resident, who was on the third floor of the home, was alerted to the fire by a battery operated smoke alarm on the first floor. The resident discovered the fire while investigating the sounding alarm and safely exited the structure and called 911. Fire investigators arrived and began an investigation into the cause of the fire. The cause and damage estimates are not available at this time. There were no reported injuries.
