What's New?

Tough Commute?

Vote Absentee!

Don't let a long commute put your right to vote at risk. You may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot!

Virginia Law allows voters to absentee vote if they are "working and commuting to/from home for 11 or more hours between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Election Day."

DO THE MATH!
Work Day = 8 hours
Lunch = 1 hour
Commute = 2 hours
TOTAL = 11 hours

Is your total commute to and from work less than 2 hours some days, but more on other days?

Don't take a gamble...
VOTE ABSENTEE!

Don't let traffic jams, metro service disruptions, or bad weather cost you your most precious right!
For more details, call 703.746.4050.

June 9, 2015 Democratic Primary

On Tuesday June 9 there will be a Democratic Primary for Virginia House of Delegates (in the 45th House District) and Alexandria Mayor.

  • Absentee Voting for the June Primary began on April 24, 2015.
  • The Voter Registration Deadline for the June Primary will be May 18, 2015
  • Alexandria is split between two House of Delegates Districts, the 45th and 46th. Sample Ballots are posted below:
    • Sample Ballot for the 45th House of Delegates District (which includes a contest for House of Delegates and Mayor)
    • Sample Ballot for the 46th House of Delegates District (which includes a contest for Mayor only).
    • List of Precincts and their corresponding House Districts

Note:

  • Only one Democratic candidate filed for State Senate (30th and 35th Districts) and House of Delegates (46th District) and only six Democratic candidates filed for City Council, so no Primaries for those offices will be held. In addition, only one Republican candidate filed for State Senate (39th District) so no Primary for that office will be held.
  • The Republican Party will nominate its candidates for Mayor, City Council, House of Delegates (45th and 46th District) and State Senate (30th and 35th District) through a Party Canvass. Check with the Alexandria Republican City Committee for more information, www.alexgop.org
  • The Democratic Party will nominate its candidate for State Senate (39th District) through a Party caucus. Check with the Alexandria Democratic Committee for more information, www.alexdems.org

Precinct Changes Effective with June 9, 2015 Primary Election

At the March 14, 2015 Public Hearing, City Council adopted an ordinance to make two precinct changes beginning with the June 9, 2015 Primary Election.

  • Replace St. James Church (5000 Echols Avenue) with the Hermitage (5000 Fairbanks Avenue) as a polling location with no change to precinct boundaries.
  • Add Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe Street) as a new precinct and polling location, carved from Fire Department (900 Second Street) and Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street). This map shows the new boundaries for Charles Houston, Fire Department and Durant precincts.
  • Voters who will be affected by these changes will receive new voter information cards in mid-May.
  • The 2015 Precinct Map is posted here.
