The Aging and Adult Services Division serves seniors and adults with disabilities with special emphasis given to those who have a low income and are most at risk of being institutionalized.  The office also serves as the Area Agency on Aging and provides staff support for the Alexandria Commission on Aging. The 28th Annual Caregiver Conference, "Caregiving – Taking a Closer Look," will explore the dimensions of caring for persons with dementia and provide information on ways to help your loved one and yourself. The conference will be held Tuesday, November 11, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King Street. More information here.

Long Term Care Long term care is generally defined as "Medical care received in a nursing facility or in a community setting that is expected to last at least 30 days". Medicare generally does not pay for this type of care.
