Provide Input on FY 2016 Budget Development

As part of the Fiscal Year 2016 budget process, the City is seeking community input on the priorities and goals that are most important to our residents. The City provides hundreds of programs and services to the community in an effort to achieve the goals and vision outlined in its Strategic Plan. Each year, the City develops a budget and makes tough decisions about how to best allocate resources to these programs. We are asking you to take a survey to tell us what’s most important to you. The survey is available through November 5.

Neighborhood Park Planning Workshop
The City is planning for Alexandria’s existing Neighborhood Parks, which are characterized as .5 - 10 acres with a service area of up to .5 miles. The results of the plan will help determine budgeting priorities and recommendations for both short and long-term incremental improvements, ensuring that neighborhood parks serve Alexandria's needs now and into the future. The next workshop on Saturday, October 25, will gather public input on District 2 which includes Beach Park, Hooffs Run Park and Greenway, Timberland Park, Goat Hill Park, Landover Park, Angel Park, Hume Springs Park, and 3550 Commonwealth Ave Park.
Fall Leaf Collection
The City's fall leaf collection program begins on October 27, and runs through the end of December. Residents have the option of raking leaves to the curb for City vacuum trucks, bagging them for curbside collection, or composting their leaves. Free biodegradable leaf bags can be picked up at various locations throughout the City. The City has also expanded its Yard Waste program, and now collects yard waste on regular trash collection day, and by special request.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and several events are taking place in Alexandria to raise awareness and money for the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund. Attend an event by the Assoc. of Alexandria Radiologists, dine at Trademark Drink and Eat, “Walk It Out” with Oakland Baptist Church or buy a t-shirt from the Fire Department and “Get Your Pink On!” Wear pink on October 24. All proceeds fund diagnostic procedures for Alexandria women. The Memorial Fund and these events are replacing the Walk to Fight Breast Cancer.

Celebrating Halloween in Alexandria

Alexandria Police will also be out to make sure trick-or-treaters have a safe Halloween night.
