Expenditures for Children & Families in FY 2013
You can be assured that 100 percent of your contribution will go directly to foster and at-risk children. All donations are tax deductible in accordance with Federal law.
Consider an Honorary or Memorial Donation
The Fund would be honored to receive a contribution in honor or in memory of a loved one who cared about the well-being of our most vulnerable children. Your family and friends can donate by eCheck or check. You and the donors will be notified when contributions are received.
Consider a Donation of Stocks
Donors may also choose to contribute Stock in lieu of a cash donation. The benefit to the donor is the savings of capital gains tax and also the receipt of a full charitable deduction for the value of the stock at the time of the gift. Please call 703.746.5663 or email Suzanne Kratzok for further information.

Fostering the Future Event Moves from Sea to Land
Announcing Fostering the Future Gala: A Night Among the Stars
THE CARLYLE CLUB
411 John Carlyle Street
There is no more vulnerable child than one without a family, one who is consigned to the foster care system. Caring people in Alexandria came together many years ago to establish The Fund for Alexandria’s Child to make a difference for these children. For 10 years, The Fund has held the Fostering the Future Cruise aboard the Cherry Blossom to raise money for these foster children and others at-risk of abuse and neglect. This year, we will host the Fostering the Future Gala: A Night Among the Stars at the magnificent Carlyle Club and the long-anticipated date is June 19.
You can look forward to dancing with the Tower House Band (formerly known as Who’s Your Daddy), gourmet hors d’oeuvres, two drinks, a smashing Silent Auction. Cost: $85/per person. Early-bird and other special discount rates to be announced later.
Contact email@example.com or 703.746.5663 for more information.
To all Holiday Sharing friends:
Our hearts are full of gratitude and holiday cheer, even as the year’s first snow melts all around us. We are sure that the donors, volunteers and recipients during next week’s distribution of gifts will share their joy, even in these tough times.
And so, 2013’s Holiday Sharing Program comes to a close. If you want to make a donation at this time, we continue to need gift cards for teens and grocery cards for seniors and disabled individuals and families. End-of-year donations to The Fund for Alexandria’s Child and the Eleanor Ager Senior Fund, both at the Department of Community and Human Services, would also be appreciated. If you have new, unwrapped toys to donate, we can take them until Friday, December 20.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Thank you, friends, for everything you have done for our recipients and our community.
With all good wishes for the holidays and the New Year,
The DCHS Holiday Sharing Committee
Amazing Fundraising Results!
Despite a threatening forecast, the sun shone just in time for the 10th Annual Fostering the Future Cherry Blossom Cruise to get underway. A Little DECOdence (our Roaring 20s themed party) raised over $39,000 to benefit The Fund. This money will provide meaningful and rewarding activities for our children in foster care and at risk of abuse and neglect. Over 260 individuals, organizations and businesses came forward as major sponsors who contributed $500 or more, as volunteers, as donors for the Silent Auction and Raffle, and enthusiastic party guests. Special thanks to contributors to the reception: Bittersweet, Caboose Café, Chadwicks, Chart House, Evening Star, Majestic, Taqueria Poblano, Virginia Linens and Presidential Detailing.
Your contributions mean that children will enjoy field trips, team sports, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, summer camp, music lessons, and incentives and rewards. In short, they will share in experiences that enrich and normalize the lives of all our children.

The Fund for Alexandria's Child works to enhance the quality of life of foster children and children at risk of abuse and neglect by promoting community awareness, involvement and resource development. We achieve our mission through providing to the children such activities as dance, art or karate lessons, summer camping, school field trips, scouting and team sports. Because of the generosity of our Alexandria neighbors, we can proudly say that we are a community "taking care of our own."
Who We Are
The Fund for Alexandria's Child is made up of volunteers, people like you, from all walks of life who want to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children in our community. Through family service specialists at the Department of Community & Human Services, we are able to identify children in need and enrich the lives of children in our community who are most at risk. We plan fundraising events, help with the collection and distribution of gifts and other items for the children, and offer our expertise to fulfill our charge: helping Alexandria's foster children and those at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect.
