Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group
The Metrorail Station Feasibility Work Group was established in October 2008 and met over the course of a year and a half through February 2010. In order to ensure there is continuity between the previous initiatives and the implementation of the proposed Metrorail station, the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Feasibility Work Group will be re-convened as The Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG). This group will assist in the review of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), station concepts, funding, provide input to staff, the Transportation Commission and the City Council. For additional news and updates regarding the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station, visit www.PotomacYardMetro.com.
The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services staff will provide coordinating support to the Work Group and will be supplemented by a consultant team and staff from other City departments. The staff of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will also assist. The Work Group is anticipated to meet over the next phases of the project implementation through construction of the station. The first meeting was held June 30, 2011 in the City Council Workroom. The meeting agenda covered background on the project, an update on the scoping of the EIS and what the next steps will be. The public is invited to attend all meetings. Council Selects Location for New Potomac Yard Metrorail Station
At a special meeting on May 20, the Alexandria City
Council voted unanimously to endorse the construction of a new Potomac Yard Metrorail
Station and select “Alternative B” as the preferred location. The
designation of a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) is a key milestone in the
process to build this Metrorail station, and now permits the development of a
Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for expected release this winter.
