City of Alexandria to Celebrate Earth Month with Events Throughout April 2024
The City of Alexandria will celebrate Earth Month with virtual and in-person events throughout the month of April encouraging residents to live sustainably and be empowered to make a positive impact on the environment.
This year, on April 22, 2024, Earth Day marks its 54th year. It is a worldwide event to support environmental protection and to encourage environmentally friendly commitments. Eco-City Alexandria will be hosting events throughout April to extend the Earth Day celebration and to continue its commitment to sustainability.
The theme of Alexandria’s Earth Month 2024 is “I am an Eco-City Superhero,” which empowers participants to take action into their own hands. Every small step to protect the planet can make a difference towards a sustainable future.
Several environmentally focused events are scheduled throughout the month:
-
Help protect our waterways by volunteering to pick up trash. Join the City’s Stormwater Management Division at a stream clean-up event along Windmill Hill Park on Saturday, April 6.
-
Eco-City Alexandria will host a tree planting, Earth Day proclamation, and an art show of pieces made by students in Alexandria City Public Schools with an Earth Day theme during ‘We are Eco-City Alexandria’ on Saturday, April 13.
-
The Del Ray Citizens Association is celebrating Earth Month by hosting GardenFest, featuring garden-centric demonstrations, activities, and informational booths. The event will also include the Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award presentation by AlexRenew and the Environmental Policy Commission on Sunday, April 21.
Eco-City Alexandria has also organized an Earth Month BINGO, filled with events and activities focused on protecting the environment and taking place around the City throughout April. Participants who complete a BINGO card and turn it in by May 1 will receive a participation certificate and Earth Day T-shirt. Participants will also be entered for a chance to win a drawing prize.
BINGO cards, as well as more instructions on how to participate, are available on the Earth Day Website. Here you can also find more information on other Earth Month events, and tips on how to build a more sustainable future.
