Join us at The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum on Sunday, October 30 or Monday, October 31 to experience actor David Keltz as visionary author Edgar Allen Poe, recreating one of Poe’s 19th-century speaking engagements. This year’s performance will include two popular short stories, poems, literary criticism, and a comic essay never before performed at The Lyceum.
David Keltz gave his first performance as Edgar Allan Poe on Halloween night 1991 at Poe's grave. Delighting all ages, he commands five hours of Poe's poems, short stories, essays, literary criticism, letters, and reported conversations.
In his travels, Mr. Keltz has performed in Prague, Czech Republic and he brings Edgar Poe to life throughout the United States for elementary and high schools, universities, and private organizations, large and small. Besides traditional theatre settings and bus tours, performance spaces as diverse as castles, libraries, medical theatres, and private dining rooms provide the backdrop for his personification of the genius we recognize as Edgar Allan Poe.
Mr. Keltz's television credits include "Homicide: Life on the Street," and for the BBC, "Hannah USA." Film credits include “E.A. Poe: Visionary” and “The Raven” for arte-TV in Germany and France. In 1995 he personified Edgar Allan Poe in TV commercials for the NFL Baltimore Ravens. More recently, he portrayed Edgar Allen Poe in the Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes,” portrayed himself on Mike Rowe’s “Sombody’s Gotta Do It,” and was featured in Rowe’s "The Way I Heard It" Podcast.
Tickets are $20 – reserve online at AlexandriaVA.gov/Shop. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the performance runs 8–9:15 p.m., each night. The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum is located at 201 South Washington Street in Old Town, Alexandria.
