City of Alexandria Academy Programs Accepting Applications for Fall 2023
The City of Alexandria invites the community to learn more about its operations by participating in one of the upcoming City Academy programs. These programs are designed to give residents, business owners, and City employees the opportunity to better understand the operations, mission, and vision of the Alexandria City Government by creating a clear connection between community input and its effects on policy decisions, infrastructure needs, and financial considerations. Applications are now being accepted.
- The Alexandria City Academy informs participants about general government operations and the functions of various departments through a combination of classroom and hands-on experiences.
- The Alexandria Community Fire Academy educates community members about fire safety and emergency medical response, as well as the history, administration, operations, and apparatus of an urban public safety agency.
- The Alexandria Community Police Academy provides an opportunity for residents to learn about various aspects of the Police Department, including its administrative philosophy, internal policies, and the guiding principles of law and ethical conduct governing the delivery of police services.
- The Sheriff’s Community Academy covers the core elements that are essential for participants to gain a greater understanding of the Sheriff’s Office operations. It allows residents to better comprehend the vital and unique role that the Sheriff’s Office plays in the community's public safety.
- The Alexandria Senior Academy, a partnership between the City and Senior Services of Alexandria, gives seniors (ages 60 and up) the opportunity to learn about City government functions and provides information on local organizations that serve the senior community.
A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of each academy program session. Class sizes are limited.
