City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Election Day, November 8, and Veterans Day, November 11

City of Alexandria government offices will be open Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, and closed Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. Other schedule changes and closures are listed below.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: On November 8, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), located at 4101 Eisenhower Ave., will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with appointments for adoptions, found animals and rehoming.
On November 11, AWLA will be open weekend hours, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with appointments for adoptions, found animals and rehoming. To make an appointment, visit AlexandriaAnimals.org/Adopt-By-Appointment or call 703.746.4744. For an animal emergency or wildlife concern, call 703.746.4444.
Courts: On November 8 and 11, the following Commonwealth of Virginia courts in Alexandria will be closed: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit, located in the Alexandria Courthouse (520 King St.)
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV): On November 8 and 11, all Virginia DMV Customer Service Centers in Northern Virginia (including 2681 Mill Rd.) will be closed.
Health Facilities: On November 8 and 11, the Alexandria City Health Department (4480 King St.), the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy (1200 N. Howard St.) and the Alexandria Health Department Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School (3330 King St.) will be closed.
Historic Alexandria: On November 8, all City museums will be closed, except for Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, which will be open from 1 to 5pm.
On November 11, the Alexandria Archaeology Museum (105 N. Union St.), Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum (201 S. Washington St.), the Freedom House Museum (1315 Duke St.), Gadsby’s Tavern Museum (134 N. Royal St.), Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary (105-107 S. Fairfax St.) and Ft. Ward Museum (4301 W Braddock Rd.) will be open; all other City Museums will be closed. Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5800; the Domestic Violence hotline at 703.746.4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703.683.7273.
Libraries: On November 8, the Alexandria Law Library (520 King St.) will be closed. All other Library branches will be open on their normal schedules.
On November 11, all Library branches will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. Visit Alexandria Library for details.
Parking: On November 8, all normal parking restrictions will be enforced. Many polling places will have reserved parking for voters.
On November 11, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.
Recreation and Art Centers: On November 8, Charles Houston, Chinquapin, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open for normal operations. All other City recreation centers will be closed for normal operations and to open to registered voters assigned to those polling places. Recreation programs, including open gym and Out of School Time, may not be offered.

The Torpedo Factory and Art Center (105-107 N. Union St) will be open Tuesday, November 8, and Friday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit Torpedo Factory and Art Center.
Resource Recovery: For the week of November 6, residential trash/yard waste/recycling will be collected according to the City’s normal schedule; there will be no “holiday slide.” The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collection Center (3224 Colvin St.) will be operating under its regular schedule. Schools: On November 8, all Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) locations will be closed for students, due to a teacher workday.
On November 11, all ACPS schools (including elementary, middle & high) will be in session.
Transit: On November 8 and 11, the fare-free DASH bus service and free King Street Trolley will operate on regular weekday schedules. The Alexandria Transit Company administrative office will be open. Visit dashbus.com for more information.
