Alexandria Police Arrest Suspect in Grand Larceny with Important Reminder of Vehicle Safety
(Alexandria, Va.) - Alexandria Police officers apprehended a man involved in a grand larceny of a vehicle this morning. Mauricio Urquilla Escobar, a 20-year-old Alexandria resident, was charged with grand larceny, driving an unauthorized vehicle, and driving on a revoked license.
At approximately 7:44 a.m., officers responded to the call of a vehicle being stolen from the 5400 block of Richenbacher Avenue. At 8:30 a.m. officers observed the vehicle being driven on S. Reynolds Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled to a dead end near South Van Dorn and Duke Streets, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. While searching the area, officers determined the subject boarded a DASH bus.
A bus he was riding was identified and located. Officers took the suspect into custody at 9:18 a.m. during a traffic stop on Seminary Road at 395.
APD reminds the community to take safety precautions and asks drivers to keep their vehicles locked, always take their keys with them, and not leave their vehicles running and unattended.
