Alexandria Police Department Makes Changes to Service Delivery
For Immediate Release: June 2, 2022
ALEXANDRIA, VA. – The Alexandria Police Department is making changes in the way it delivers services to the community.
The Alexandria Police Department like most law enforcement agencies across the nation has experienced a significant reduction in their workforce due to resignations and retirements. While APD remains dedicated to providing excellent public safety services, this reduction in officers has affected the way APD will deliver services to the community.
APD is making these service adjustments to prioritize the workload to better serve the Alexandria Community. With these changes, officers will have the opportunity to become more engaged with the public and better serve the community.
“Even though we are making these adjustments please know we are committed to engaging and building partnerships with all communities in Alexandria, “said Chief Don Hayes. “We will continue to actively police neighborhoods to prevent and reduce crime and always maintain operational readiness and preparedness.”
Some of the modifications include:
· Not responding to certain calls that may fall under another agency’s role unless the agency requests support.
· Not responding to scenes that occurred earlier in which there is no danger to the public, no identifying suspects, or valuable investigative leads.
· APD will also provide more support for online and phone reporting.
· APD is also working on an outreach campaign to help educate the community about the changes and updating our website to reflect these changes as well.
APD will continue to monitor these modifications and evaluate our responses and adjust if needed to ensure we are best serving the Alexandria Community.
