COMMUNITY & SPECIAL EVENTSAugust 7 August 14 August 14 August 21 August 22 FALL 2010 RECREATION PROGRAM GUIDESubscribers to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will receive the Fall 2010 Recreation Program Guide in the mail by August 16 and the guide will be posted online Monday, August 9. As part of the City of Alexandria’s Eco-City Initiative, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities has reduced the number of printed program guides and no longer automatically mails them to all households. Only individuals who have subscribed will continue to receive the program guide by mail. Registration for fall 2010 classes begins on Wednesday, August 25 for City residents and Friday, August 27 for nonresidents. Concerts are cancelled in the event of inclement weather and subject to change without notice. Visitors to the historic district are encouraged to take Metro rail Yellow or Blue lines to the King Street Station in Old Town and take the King Street Trolley; take DASH or Metro buses; or park in one of the convenient parking garages or lots. Kids can fill their summer playing with robots, kicking a soccer ball, swimming and walking through nature just to name a few. NEIGHBORHOOD MINI POOLS HOURS EXTENDEDThe City's Neighborhood "Mini" Pools, John Ewald Pool, 4500 Duke St., and The Memorial Pool at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St., will now be open on weekends through Monday, September 6, 2010. The Neighborhood Pools' operating hours are Monday - Friday from noon to 6 pm; Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, noon to 6 pm. In addition, Adult Only hours are available at the two neighborhood pools on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7 pm. Admission is free. JONES POINT PARK CONSTRUCTION UPDATEJones Point Park, 65 acres in size, is and will remain owned, maintained and operated by the National Park Service as land of the US Department of Interior. The entire Jones Point Park will not be closed to public access during construction. The Royal Street Community Gardens, the Lee Street Community Gardens, the Mount Vernon Trail and the Community Recycling Center will have continuous public access.
