Alexandria Police Department Congratulates Graduates of Basic K-9 School

On Thursday, May 24, the Police Department held a graduation ceremony for the graduates of the Basic K-9 School, hosted by the Alexandria Police Department's K-9 Unit.  The ceremony was held at the Police Department’s K-9 Facility, located at 1108 Jefferson Street.
Three Alexandria Police K-9 teams, one Arlington County Police K-9 team and one Prince William County Police K-9 team participated in the Basic K-9 School which started on February 13. 

The new K-9 teams are:
• Officer Douglass Serven and K-9 “Trajan”
• Officer Carlos Rolon and K-9 “Czekaj”
• Officer Brian Fromm and K-9 “Odin”
• Officer Thomas Binckley and K-9 “Hugo” - Arlington County Police Department
• Officer Jay Gutschmidt and K-9 “Loki” - Prince William County Police Department

The five teams completed a 14-week training course in all areas of police K-9 work, including instruction on obedience, evidence recovery, suspect search, tracking, agility, criminal apprehension, building search and tactical deployments with canine. The class was taught by lead trainer K-9 Officer Carlos Rolon, who has been with the Department since 1998 and in the K-9 Unit since 2004.
