For Immediate Release: June 26, 2009

Saturday, June 27 - Waterfront Plan Charrette
What’s the future of the waterfront? You decide! Come and discuss existing conditions, opportunities, and constraints as well as provide new ideas for the future of the waterfront.  The charrette will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the T.C. Williams High School Cafeteria, 3330 King St. Lunch and childcare will be provided!  For more details, visit www.alexandriava.gov/Waterfront or contact Veronica Davis at 703.746.3855.

Monday, June 29 - Local History / Special Collections Hours Reduced
Effective beginning June 29, the Local History / Special Collections will have the following hours:  Mondays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and first Saturdays of the month, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Due to declining tax revenue and current city-wide financial challenges, it is necessary to implement this service reduction.

Coming Soon

Thursday, July 7 - Census 2010 Complete Count Committee Meeting
The Census 2010 Complete Count Committee will be meeting at 7p.m. in Room 2000, City Hall (301 King St.) in preparation for the 2010 US Census, which will officially kick off on April 1, 2010. In March 2009, City Council established a Complete Count Committee to help develop a strategy to ensure an accurate count and promote participation by all residents. It is critical that all City residents are counted since Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year. For additional information, contact Ralph Rosenbaum at 703.746.3859.
